the jerk store called

Hey ass holes, the Jerk Store called.
Back to Full Blog

This is the opening paragraph from an article in today’s Washington Post by staff columnist Dan Eggen.

"The FBI reported more than 100 possible violations to an intelligence oversight board over the past two years, including cases in which agents tapped the wrong telephone, intercepted the wrong e-mails or continued to listen to conversations after a warrant had expired, according to a report issued yesterday"

The rest of the article goes into the details of the violations as well as the Republican's assertion that this report some how proves that our rights aren't being violated.

I haven't checked yet, but I'm sure our good friend Renegade is all over the facts and stats of this most recent proof that our rights are being stepped on. With that in mind I think I'll relegate today’s blog to pissing and moaning about this bullshit.

On the surface, 100 instances in 2 years may not sound like much, but I think we can all assume that those are only a fraction of the violations that actually occurred. When people break the rules they try their best not to get caught, our President and his staff are living proof. It should be obvious to those of us willing to exercise the smallest amount of common sense that the instances referred to in the FBI report are just the ones in which people were weren't slick enough to get away with it.

In honor of all of the "bleeding hearts" that have been fighting the Patriot Act since it was concieved in the bowels of the earth I will say, WE TOLD YOU SO!!

I’ve done so much bitching about how obviously assed out our Republican Government's policies are. I’m beginning to see a pattern here and this is my version of the formula that is becoming as predictable as the President’s use of the word Freedom:

The Repugs have an idea. Liberals kick and scream. Repugs call us un-American. The nation agrees. Whatever cockamamie plan the Repugs are trying to institute is adopted. We wait for a little while. BOOM! The liberal's fears prove right on the money. The Repugs tell us that the bad news is actually good news. Everyone goes back to watching American Idle.

I suggest that all of us that have had the disturbing habit of being right about our nation's leaders start recording our opinions in a note book so that when we are left with no freedoms and a military draft we can prove that we were against it the whole time. This may seem like a weird proposal but it might just help us gain citizenship in a liberal foreign country that, I'm sure, will hate us by then when we're forced to move to a nation not run by a Christian Plutocracy.

All right, all right, I know, I'm being a bit melodramatic, but I just don't know what else to say about the systematic watering down of our rights as Americans.

The REALLY fucked up part of this situation is that there's not much we can do about it any more, at least not for a while. The story that inspired this post is about the implications of the Patriot Act, which we were told we "needed" for our "National Security". In this instance it's too late. We didn't let our leaders know that we weren't going to stand for this when we had the chance. Not only did we let them do this to us once but we have just recently sat by silently while they renewed the laws that give the people in charge the power to treat our freedoms with such disdain.

I'm not even mad. I'm just emotionally exhausted as far as the state of our nation is concerned. I'm having one of those days where you just feel overwhelmed by the bullshit reigning down on you on a daily basis.

This is a pointless request but I'll make it any way. Can all of us Americans PLEASE stop watching shit reality TV and open our eyes to the fecal matter that is falling on us out of the mouths and minds of the people we have chosen to rule us?

When I started writing this piece I was pissed off at the people that have written and voted these dictates into law. But as of right now that anger has turned into disgust at the apathy and ignorance that we have all shown regarding the running of our country. I'm not even in the mood to come up with a new way to tell you guys that the you-know-what called. Hey ass holes, the Jerk Store called. They ran out of us.

I feel the same way. I am exhausted with anger and filled with disgust. And at present, there is no viable alternative political party to turn to for help.

Wire tapping has gone on for years. Just refer to anything Hoover. Kennedy and MLK. All the way up to now (and yes that obviously includes Nixon, DUH). Alot of silencing goes on during "wartime". Just investigate Lincolns deporting of rabble-rousers. I think the whole point behind the Patriot Act that never gets mentioned (and what was it, 14 of the 16 parts of it ratified back in as permanent today) is that if you got something to hide than you should worry, if not then no sweat. Moody you said it, if you got caught you are not as "slick" as you think you are. Ignorance is a crime. If people are bummed about the FBI finding out you are addicted to Danielle Steele novels well than don't read them. Most things people think they will be persecuted for if caught just won't be persued. We live in a gossip world and that is the way it is. We should all be used to that after surviving junior high. Hopefully the FBI can listen in to and tap American Idle vote lines and alter who it is taht wins and we will know all about it when William Hung mysteriously comes back to win this years "competition" (HA HA HA HA what a pathetic program). Hey, there is one thing the government, regardless of leadership party affiliation, knows better than anything: "She Bangs, She Bangs"!

I lived through LBJ, Nixon, Viet Nam and Watergate and what we got going on now, well, some days are worse and some days are not. However, they both give new meaning and dimension to the word suck.

If you think the great unwashed masses have their collective heads up the colective asses now look back to the Eisenhower and Kennedy era. Eisenhower and Kennedy couldn't get elected to Dogcatcher today. Eisenhower had an affair with his driver in Eroupe during WW II, organized the Bay of Pigs fiasco, covertly. JFK and the rest of the clan were womanizer of the first stripe and JFK pulled the US backing for the Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba promised by the previous adminsitration. The difference between then and now is the press played a handoffs game with poloticians unless one of them committed murder on the capitol steps. Compare what we know now about these people with the bunch of clowns we've had in the last two adminstrations and see how the stack up. I know this sounds like ramblings, but I'm at work and don't have time to write a book, which I' sure esome one has.

Just stiring the pot.

Moody,
the big problem will always be voter apathy. You mentioned it in a post quite a while back. It always surprises me, although I don’t know why, that Americans simply don’t want to be bothered with voting. It’s uncool and corny and doesn’t matter anyway. Those self-preservationalists in Washington DC got there on the endorsement of about 42% of the registered voters. Apathy is a poison. Vote Repub? Vote Dem? Doesn’t matter; just vote.

I don't know if I completely agree, If some 18 year old votes...who knows nothing about politics or issues.. he votes on who has the best hair. Or worse, he votes republican because those simple values appeal directly to undeveloped minds. "GOD GAS GUNS. We should just kill all them sand niggers" These are how young people think before they learn how to think.

You're looking at this the totally wrong way. Human history has played out this cycle over and over again. The civilization starts out small, then gets bigger, then hits an era of peace and tranquility, then the populace gets apathetic and self-indulgent, then corrupt leaders take control and attempt to spread their influence and power, then their resources get watered down and the populace reaches a breaking point with the oppression, then there's a violent revolution or civil war. Bottom line is we'll get to shoot them soon, and you don't get in trouble for shooting people at war! Rejoice! Satisfaction is soon at hand!

Me and a friend were having that very convo last night. WOuld it make any difference if everyone woke up to the goings on in this country and made an issue of it. Thanks for posting your opinions. I don't agree with everything, but I love your view points none the less. Looking forward to reading more post.
